The F-35’s first mission in service to the people of the United States of America won’t be a stealth reconnaissance flight or an aerial battle – it will be an acting role. An F-35 will be featured alongside the Man of Steel in the upcoming Superman movie remake.
From the looks of things, this was a decision that everybody could get behind. Hollywood is already chomping at the bit to get their cameras locked onto the world’s most advanced fighter jet, and for good reason. F-22s have been dominating the silver screen for some time now, but now moviegoers want to see their most recent tax dollars in action. We all loved seeing the Hulk grapple with an F-22 and Iron Man dodge missiles, but it’s time for the F-22 to move over and let the new kid get some screen time.

We can only hope for the latter. Movie-goers have seen a few F-35s in flight before, but they’ve all been CGI knockoffs. This could be the first chance that the F-35 has to earn some widespread public adoration and get back on the tax payer’s good side.
This will undoubtedly be the first in a long line of movie appearances for the F-35. With the overwhelming success of summer action blockbusters, it’s an inevitability that Hollywood directors will be dying to feature the F-35 in their next war scene. Of course, directors need to do much more than include these sleek aircraft on camera – they’ll also need ensure that they give accurate portrayals of aerial combat.
